Xcel Colorado warns heat-pump rebate payments may pause after Oct. 19, with checks slipping to 2027 (2 minute read)

A Denver contractor relays an Oct. 9 Xcel trade-partner notice: Colorado heat-pump and heat-pump water heater rebate demand has outrun the 2026 budget. If the PUC doesn't approve shifting funds by Oct. 19, Xcel stops paying those rebates. Applications are still accepted, and unpaid claims get processed in January 2027 at the rate in effect when filed. Furnace, boiler, insulation, and income-qualified rebates continue. Shops fronting rebates on invoices carry the cash gap.

Google LSA now bills missed calls over 20 seconds, and LSA accounts are moving into Google Ads (3 minute read)

Since Oct. 1, Google Local Services Ads can bill a missed call during listed business hours if the caller stays on past 20 seconds. With a press-a-key phone menu, the timer starts at the key press. LSA is also migrating into Google Ads as Performance Max with pay-per-lead goals: select HVAC advertisers went first in August, and service-area businesses follow late 2026. Old LSA reports don't carry over, so export them first.

EIA winter outlook: heating-oil homes pay about 21% more, electric-heat homes 4% more, and gas homes 9% less (2 minute read)

EIA’s 2026–27 Winter Fuels Outlook (Oct. 6) expects heating-oil households to spend about 21% more this winter. They're about 3% of U.S. homes, mostly in the Northeast. Prices are forecast up more than 30%, and milder Northeast weather offsets part of that. Electric-heat homes (40%+ of households) see bills +4%, natural gas −9%, and propane −3%. East Coast distillate stocks ran 32% below average in September. Expect more oil-to-heat-pump and repair-vs-replace questions on Northeast calls.

Anthropic robot study: HVAC field tasks are still out of robots’ reach (2 minute read)

Anthropic’s Sept. 30 report finds robots can technically perform 74% of U.S. physical tasks, mostly in factories and warehouses, but are cost-competitive for just 0.3%. At a 3% yearly price decline, reaching 10% takes about 40 years. Homepros (Oct. 12) notes HVACR mechanics and installers scored 0.46 on the 0–3 exposure index. None of the 24 scored field tasks can be done by a robot today, including changing filters and reclaiming refrigerant.
