🏠 Residential & Contractor Business

San Fernando Valley opens $20 million in heat pump incentives, for enrolled contractors only (2 minute read)

TECH Clean California has $20 million in single-family incentives for Valley communities affected by the Aliso Canyon gas storage facility, from Porter Ranch to Van Nuys. Heat pump HVAC pays $2,000 to $5,000 at market rate, or $4,500 to $18,500 with weatherization for income-qualified homes. Projects must start on or after Nov. 2, and homeowners must hire an enrolled TECH contractor.

A national commentator is telling homeowners private equity raises HVAC prices (2 minute read)

ACHR's Kyle Gargaro (Oct. 29) writes that The Daily Wire's Matt Walsh argued PE consolidation is cutting competition and driving higher prices and harder sales, pointing to Detroit brands under one owner. Gargaro says PE-backed shops aren't automatically bad, but whether Walsh is fair "does not matter": the narrative now reaches consumers, and every contractor will have to deal with it.

RMI: heat pumps could push residential power rates down, if hybrids are in the mix (3 minute read)

RMI's report, covered by Contracting Business on Oct. 30, estimates about 86 million more homes could add heat pumps within existing winter grid headroom in summer-peaking states. Mixing all-electric and hybrid systems could lower residential rates an average 13%, about $200 per customer a year. RMI also urges codes that push heat pumps when the roughly 4 million central ACs replaced each year fail.

🧰 Products & Field Technology

Enertech adds a $0-down lease and a HELOC for residential geothermal (2 minute read)

Enertech Global (Oct. 29) added two homeowner financing routes for its geothermal heat pumps. Palmetto's 10-year lease needs no upfront payment and includes maintenance and repairs; Figure's home equity line runs 10 to 30 years with no dealer fees or prepayment penalties, and Enertech installers get lower rates. For geo dealers, both target the up-front-cost objection that kills most loop quotes.

💼 Market, Deals & Workforce

Trane's residential business grew about 20%, and it expects clean channel inventory into 2027 (2 minute read)

Trane Technologies (Oct. 29) said Americas organic revenue rose 19% and raised full-year revenue guidance. On the call, management said residential bookings and organic revenue each rose about 20%, beating its own plan; it guided Q4 residential up high single digits and expects "normalized channel inventories" exiting 2026. Residential price was positive but lighter than planned, partly from distributor incentives on higher volume.

Housing investment fell again in Q3 even as GDP grew 3.4% (1 minute read)

BEA's advance estimate (Oct. 29) put third-quarter real GDP growth at a 3.4% annual rate, up from 2.2%. Real residential fixed investment fell at a 3.3% rate after rising 2.8% in the second quarter, its fourth decline in five quarters. For shops tied to new construction and remodels, the economy's strength still isn't reaching housing.
