DOE Program Notice 26-2 killed HEEHR rebates for fuel-switching: new reservations cover only electric-to-more-efficient-electric upgrades (plus eligible new construction). Homes may keep fossil HVAC when adding a heat pump. Approved old-rule reservations may finish; NEFI’s Sep. 22 note says every new reservation on/after Sep. 1 must follow the rewrite. Re-check state portals before quoting fuel-switch jobs — utility incentives are separate.
AIM Act ALD clock: Jan. 1, 2027 for legacy ≥1,500-lb commercial / IPR systems (3 minute read)
EPA’s Jan. 2026 ALD fact sheet (40 CFR 84.108) hits commercial refrigeration and IPR systems with ≥1,500 lb of an HFC or substitute GWP >53. Installs on/after Jan. 1, 2026: ALD at install or within 30 days. Installs 2017–2025: ALD by Jan. 1, 2027 (~93 days out). Direct or indirect OK; annual audit/calibration and three-year records. Grocery/IPR desks: quote detection now.

ACHR’s Sep. 4 analysis (citing UC Berkeley’s Lucas Davis): the ≤$2,000 federal heat-pump tax credit expired Jan. 1, 2026 — and eight months of AHRI curves show no cliff and no end-of-2025 spike. Davis’s read: geography, climate, and power prices drove adoption more than the credit.
