ASHRAE and UNEP OzonAction announced Sep. 10, 2026 a renewed two-year Memorandum of Understanding (signed Aug. 14) under the Montreal Protocol / Kigali Amendment. The 2026–2027 work plan theme is “Lifecycle Refrigerant Management”: manufacture/import through selection, servicing, leak prevention, and end-of-life. Named projects include an AI mobile field companion for RAC technicians, flammable-refrigerant fact sheets, continued educational products, and tighter ASHRAE chapter ↔ National Ozone Unit links. U.S. trainers and A2L safety leads should pull the joint portal resources even though the MoU’s developing-country focus is global.
DOL TEN 05-26: Framework for Effective Pre-Apprenticeships (3 minute read)
On Sep. 8, 2026 the U.S. Department of Labor issued Training and Employment Notice 05-26, Framework for Effective Pre-Apprenticeships, replacing March 2024 guidance. ACCA’s Sep. 15 wrap highlights five quality pillars: direct pathways into Registered Apprenticeship (written entry / advanced standing), industry-aligned curriculum, supervised hands-on or simulated work, workforce–education–employer partnerships, and outcomes tracking — with Workforce Pell (150–599 clock hours over 8–<15 weeks) flagged as a financing lever for related instruction. Guidance, not a new rule; HVACR sponsors should use it to tighten CTE and community-college feeder deals before fall hiring.

Bosch Home Comfort Group (Dallas, Aug. 12, 2026) launched Evcon® and Guardian® multifamily heating/cooling packages spanning heat pumps, ACs, furnaces, air handlers, coils, and thermostats for U.S./Canada condos, apartments, and townhomes. Install-facing specs: line sets up to 250 ft, lift up to 150 ft, and compact 24×24-in cabinets / horizontal-discharge HPs for tight mechanical rooms. ACs 1.5–5 tons at SEER2 13.4 / 14.3; heat pumps 1–5 tons with 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 available now and remaining capacities later in 2026. GoTemp Pro app covers commissioning. Multifamily (~1/3 of U.S. housing per Bosch/NAHB cite) gets a purpose-built ducted path — confirm regional SKU availability before takeoffs.
Heat-pump retrofits: panel upgrades aren’t automatic — Manual J + MCA first (3 minute read)
ACHR’s Sep. 16 Q&A with Midea’s David Rames pushes contractors to stop defaulting to “same tonnage, new panel.” Inverter cold-climate heat pumps can land on similar maximum overcurrent protection as legacy ACs; options that often avoid upgrades include right-sizing after Manual J, dual-fuel (keep the gas furnace as backup), and — in milder climates — heat-pump + AHU on an existing 115-V furnace circuit without strips. Fuse panels and truly overloaded 100-A services still fail. Spec check: pull submittal MCA / MOCP / aux-heat before the electrical quote.

Mitsubishi Electric MECH-iC: 350/500-ton mag-bearing air-cooled chillers for U.S. data centers (3 minute read)
Mitsubishi Electric Power Products (MEPPI) and MEHITS are putting MECH-iC into the U.S. hyperscale/colocation market: oil-free magnetic-bearing air-cooled chillers in ~350-ton (1.2 MW) and ~500-ton (1.75 MW) nominal sizes, warm-water optimized (65–75°F leaving water), ambient to 125°F, non-flammable A1 R-515B, patented R.E.D. Cooler subcooling, and Fast Restart Logic reclaiming full load in under three minutes after power loss. OEM page cites a compact footprint vs comparable systems and multi-manager control for up to eight chillers; AHRI 550/590-certified datasheet tables list MECH-iC 1232 / 1764. Specifiers should pull the brochure before pad layouts — Sep. 15–16 trade wraps are discovery only.

Mitsubishi Electric Corp. (Tokyo, Sep. 14, 2026) published R&D release No. 3936 on a plate heat exchanger for heat-pump cooling/heating that uses micro-offset fins between flat plates plus inlet/outlet distribution channels optimized via two-phase flow simulation. Versus its own conventional grooved-plate HX, Mitsubishi claims ~3× heat-transfer performance and roughly two-thirds less refrigerant charge (charge ≈ one-third of prior) — aimed at lower-GWP / mildly flammable refrigerants where charge minimization is a safety lever. Not a shippable SKU announcement; watch for product-line incorporation notes.

SRS Distribution (Home Depot) to acquire Lohmiller / Carrier West — 4 Colorado branches (2 minute read)
SRS Distribution announced Aug. 10, 2026 a definitive agreement to buy Lohmiller & Company (Carrier West), a Denver-based Carrier residential/light-commercial/applied distributor with four Colorado locations and ~220 employees. Terms undisclosed; owners Tim Brooks, Mark Brown, and Roger Lee stay in leadership. CEO Dan Tinker frames it as the second add to SRS’s HVAC platform after Mingledorff’s in the Southeast — both Carrier-aligned. Pending close; Colorado contractors should watch branch branding and credit terms, not assume immediate SKU disruption.
Beijer Ref to acquire 75% of FG Europe — ~SEK 1.4B Greek HVAC distributor (2 minute read)
Beijer Ref (Malmö, Sep. 11, 2026) signed a binding agreement for 75% of FG Europe (Athens; presence across the Balkans, UK, Ireland, and Turkey) with an option on the remainder. FG Europe — founded 1958 — posts ~SEK 1.4B annual turnover in residential/commercial HVAC distribution and keeps its brand; completion needs competition-authority approval; Beijer expects a minor positive earnings impact. Second European HVAC roll-up this month after Issue 3’s Refra deal — distinct target, same consolidator.
